StandWithUs Urges Suspension of Massive Arabic Facebook Page for Promoting Vile Antisemitism

SIGN THE PETITION

StandWithUs strongly urges Facebook to suspend the page of Mohamed Sobhy, an Egyptian actor who is using his platform to promote deadly antisemitism. The page has nearly 7.8 million followers and is currently broadcasting episodes of the show A Knight Without a Horse. This show revolves around the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a vicious antisemitic conspiracy theory which helped inspire the Holocaust.

“Growing up in Egypt, I experienced how shows like this poison so many minds with baseless hatred against Jews,” said Hussein Aboubakr, Educator at the StandWithUs Center for Combating Antisemitism. “This is a sad response to the growing peaceful ties between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and other Arab states. Facebook should follow its own policies by immediately suspending Mohamed Sobhy’s account and removing all episodes of this antisemitic show.”

A Knight Without a Horse is a 41 part series that was originally broadcast in 2002 on Egyptian state television, Iraqi state television, and a channel owned by Hezbollah in Lebanon. At the time, it was strongly condemned by the U.S. State Department for promoting hate.

The show is based on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a piece of antisemitic propaganda created by Russian authorities in 1903. It falsely accused Jews of conspiring to control the media, banks, governments, and more, in order to achieve world domination. This hateful lie was frequently used by the Nazis justify their genocide of six million Jews in WWII.

“As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, I know too well where this type of antisemitism can lead,” said Roz Rothstein, CEO of StandWithUs. “Facebook has recently made promising statements about fighting antisemitism, and must now follow those words with actions.”

The StandWithUs Center for Combating Antisemitism will continue to confront hatred against Jews wherever it may appear across the political spectrum and around the world.
