Israeli carrier Arkia said on Thursday that it signed a deal with low-cost U.S. airline JetBlue Airways to allow customers to connect on JetBlue flights in the United States, as well as to Latin America and the Caribbean.

The agreement, which follows the successful launch of Arkia’s direct flights to New York last year, will see its schedule of up to seven weekly nonstop flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport linked with JetBlue’s destination network, just like Israel’s flag carrier, EL AL.

“This agreement adds a significant layer to strengthening Arkia’s long-haul operations and expanding the range of services for customers traveling to North America,” said Oz Berlowitz, CEO of Arkia.

Dave Jehn, a vice president at the New York-based JetBlue, the sixth-largest airline in the United States, said the new partnership with Arkia “allows us to expand our global reach and provides customers with a wider range of destinations and seamless connections between flights.”

Arkia, which inaugurated the first-ever flight from Tel Aviv to Vietnam this week, is the third-largest Israeli carrier after El Al and Israir.
