Hours after a deadly terror attack that claimed the life of an Israeli citizen, hundreds of Arab residents of eastern Jerusalem marched on Sunday night through Shuafat refugee camp, home of the gunman.
According to a report by Ynet, the rally was initiated by Hamas.
Schoolteacher Fadi Abu Shkaydam, 42, a member of the political wing of Hamas, opened fire in the Old City hours earlier, murdering 25-year-old Israeli civilian Eliyahu (“Eli”) Kay and injuring four others before being shot dead by police.
After marching in the direction of Shkaydam’s home, rioters set tires on fire and hurled rocks at Border Police units that arrived at the scene, the report said, while chanting that “the martyrs are going to Jerusalem in the millions” and praising Hamas.
The rally’s participants also called for a general strike.
The terrorist visited the Al-Aqsa mosque on a frequent basis prior to the attack, and as an activist, urged Muslim worshippers to forcefully stop Israeli police from entering the compound during disturbances.
According to the report, his son Aboud posted a photo of his father on social media with a firearm during the attack, stating that he was proud to be the son of a “martyr.”
Hamas praised the terrorist in an official statement, saying that the “Holy City continues to fight against the foreign occupier.”
