A 9-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet on Friday while playing with friends in Kochav Ya’akov, in Israel’s Binyamin region, is out of the hospital and resting.
Avigail was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem in light to moderate condition following the incident. The IDF Home Front Command issued an alert for a terrorist infiltration, calling on the residents to enter their homes, before it was determined that she was struck by a stray bullet.
“She saw that her shoulder was bleeding and that she had a hole in her dress and body, and ran home. The girl was playing with friends at the entrance to the building, and suddenly she felt something fall on her. She didn’t understand what it was,” her father told Channel 12.
“She saw that she had holes in her dress and body and understood that it wasn’t an injury and that something penetrated her body. She was taken straight to the medical clinic, and after the doctor checked her, he said that it would seem to be a bullet and that she must go to the hospital since there was an entry wound but no exit wound. At the time I was at the synagogue; I got there only after she was taken to receive medical care,” he continued.
“She was released from the hospital, now she’s resting at home, thank God,” Avigail’s father added.
It was learned later that the bullet came from the direction of nearby Ramallah.
The incident came during heightened tensions over the Shavuot holiday. Earlier in the day, a terrorist with a knife infiltrated the Israeli community of Teneh Omarim, near Hebron. A civilian security guard shot and killed him.
