The resolutions would prevent the transfer of more than $20 billion in weapons to Jerusalem.
“It’s far past time to transfer to Israel the capabilities it needs to win,” senators Tom Cotton and Mitch McConnell wrote to President Joe Biden.
He also said the proposal by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to freeze military aid to Israel would “embolden terrorists like Hamas and Hezbollah.”
The invitation “symbolizes the U.S. and Israel’s enduring relationship,” congressional leaders said.
“Pauses in critical weapons shipments call into question your pledge that your commitment to Israel’s security will remain ironclad,” the Republicans wrote.
“If moral clarity does not prevail—in the ivory tower and in the Biden administration—this could go down as a particularly shameful moment in our history,” the Senate minority leader said.
“Father Time remains undefeated,” McConnell said. “It is time for the next generation of leadership.”
The Senate minority leader expressed alarm at the rise in Holocaust denial among the young.
In many cases, antisemitism is coming from “people that most liberal Jewish Americans felt previously were their ideological fellow travelers,” the Senate majority leader said.
