Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar on Friday congratulated Yehuda Kaploun, a Chabad rabbi, after the U.S. Senate confirmed his appointment as special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism.

The position within the State Department is tasked with fighting Jew-hatred overseas.

“We appreciate the Trump administration’s strong commitment to combat antisemitism. With the alarming rise of this ancient disease around the world, this joint fight is more important now than ever,” said Sa’ar.

Born in Israel and raised in New Haven, Conn., Kaploun is the second Chassid to be approved by the Senate for a senior administration position.
