(February 13, 2019 / JNS) Attacking the upcoming Warsaw conference on peace and security in the Middle East, senior Fatah official Jibril Rajoub stated that the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is welcomed at the conference is to “remind us of the Holocaust,” and that “in every city in Palestine … there is an Israeli Auschwitz to massacre Palestinians,” according to a new report by Palestinian Media Watch.
In a post two days ago on his personal Facebook page, Rajoub said: “They are welcoming Netanyahu in Warsaw in order to remind us of the Holocaust and Auschwitz (i.e., in Poland). In every city in Palestine, from Rafah to Jenin, there is an Israeli Auschwitz to massacre Palestinians.” [Facebook page of Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub, Feb. 10, 2019]
The conference, or summit, is a U.S.-sponsored event from Feb. 13-15 in Poland to discuss peace and security in the Middle East. Netanyahu will be attending the conference. The Palestinian Authority refused the invitation and requested that Arab states boycott the conference.
A similar Holocaust-linked attack on the conference was expressed in an editorial in the official P.A. daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida on Sunday. It accused the United States of using the Warsaw Conference to implement U.S. President Donald Trump’s yet unpublished Middle East peace plan—the so-called “deal of the century”—“which is nothing but a plan to carry out a ‘holocaust’ against this cause, the most just cause of the current age.” [Official P.A. daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 10, 2019]
In this light, the editorial speculated that it “is not a coincidence that Warsaw will serve as the site for the conference.” It charged that the United States will copy what “the Nazis did” and turn the city of Warsaw into “an arena of holocaust of eradication against a small, oppressed, and tortured people”:
“Perhaps it is not a coincidence that Warsaw will serve as the site for the convening of this conference [on] the American administration’s failed deal; this is the just ruse of history, which wishes to remind humanity that the holocausts of racist eradication that Nazi Germany carried out in Poland can happen again today as a result of this American policy. It wishes to turn Warsaw, as the
Nazis did, into an arena of holocaust of eradication against a small, oppressed and tortured people, the Palestinian people.”

PMW Director Itamar Marcus is appalled yet unsurprised by the PA leaders’ Holocaust comparisons. He says: “For years Rajoub has been comparing Israelis to Nazis and Israeli behavior to the Holocaust, and in this way accomplishes two Palestinian goals: to minimize the Holocaust and present themselves continuously as victims. A few months ago he personally attacked PMW and called me the “Goebbels of the 21st Century.” Significantly, it is the P.A. once again that is refusing to participate in a peace conference and prevent the start of any peace talks and yet they are blaming others.”
Likewise, two days ago, in the official P.A. daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Abbas’s Fatah movement stated that the conference is “a plot to eliminate the Palestinian cause”: “The Fatah Movement emphasized that the goal of the Warsaw plot is to eliminate the Palestinian cause, and that it constitutes an American-Israeli attempt to execute the deal of disgrace and to advance ideas that only those who betray Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre can agree to or cooperate with.” [Official P.A. daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 10, 2019]
According to Palestinian Media Watch report, Fatah Spokesman Osama Al-Qawasmi further warned against meetings with Netanyahu because it is considered “normalization” with Israel. Quoted in the official P.A. daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Al-Qawasmi said: “Any Arab meeting with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu or any type of normalization with the occupying Israeli entity is tantamount to a knife [in the back] of Jerusalem, our people, and the flowing Palestinian blood, a free gift to Tel Aviv, and encouragement for its occupation and its crimes.’” [Official P.A. daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 10, 2019]
In remarks about the Warsaw Conference, Rajoub also spoke out against “normalization,” expressing hope that Arab countries will boycott it, because “normalization with Israel is taboo.” Rajoub posted his comments on his personal Facebook page, saying: “Once again, we hope that the Arab Summit will emphasize that normalization and ties with Israel—as long as Palestine is occupied—are taboo. … We do not want to see Israelis in the Arab capitals—not for purposes of sports, not for purposes of economy, not for purposes of cooperation, and so on. As long as the Palestinian state has not been established, this must remain taboo.” [Facebook page of Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub, Feb. 10, 2019]
