The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) announced on Wednesday the appointment of a new deputy chief, in a move approved by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The new deputy, identified only by the first Hebrew letter of his first name, “Shin,” will take up the role several months from now.

He is 52 years old, joined the agency in 1995 and previously served in senior roles, including as leader of its research and counterintelligence departments. He led the operations branch over the past three years.

He replaces “Mem,” who served a three-year term that was extended due to the war against Hamas and Hezbollah.
