Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan said “it took the general assembly a few months to convene a discussion on the fight against COVID-19. But when it comes to holding a debate to pressure Israel and give a terrorist organization a free pass, you were able to convene after only 11 days. What a disgrace.”
The Biden administration has vowed to support Israel in international forums like the United Nations, where it is often disproportionately singled out for criticism.
The U.N. Security Council called an emergency meeting that resulted in no action as tensions escalated in Jerusalem and rockets fell on Israel from Hamas in Gaza.
“For Israel, Iran poses an existential threat,” said Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan.
In a letter, the Israeli ambassador highlighted that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had carried out ballistic-missile tests, including those capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
One of the four, “Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory” featured 19 paragraphs criticizing Israel and just one censuring rocket fire on the Jewish state, with no mention of Hamas.
At the same time, U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield criticized the U.N. Security Council for its disproportionate focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Children from low-income families who lack access to computers and online learning will be the key beneficiaries.
“We need to fight this in the same way we fight against COVID-19 and terrorism. We can no longer wait for a life to be ruined or taken before we act,” said Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan.

In a letter to the president, members of the House Committee on Homeland Security said America “cannot afford to be perceived as weak or wavering on these important national security threats. Appeasement will not effectuate change.”
