The Israeli mission in Geneva responded with its own statement, saying the OHCHR “once again deplorably fails to mention the main obstacle to establishing the truth in this tragic incident: the Palestinian Authority’s refusal to conduct a joint investigation and hand over the bullet. This Palestinian attitude raises doubts.”
This is the second time that Francesca Albanese, the Palestinians’ lead advocate for human rights at the United Nations, has rationalized attacks against Israelis.
“Israel remains the only member state in the history of the U.N. that has been singled out for taking a defensive military action to protect its civilian population from indiscriminate violence,” wrote the agency.
StandWithUs arranged it, saying Israel has been targeted unfairly by the United Nations as part of a sustained, vindictive agenda.
Since its launch in the spring, the COI Elimination Act has garnered the support of 34 members of Congress, including seven Democrats.
“We believe the nature of [it] is further demonstration of disproportionate attention given to Israel that has carried over from the founding of this council and must stop,” said U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Michèle Taylor.
For Jewish organizations that roundly rejected the Commission of Inquiry’s creation in May 2021, the contents of the report were not unexpected.
“Nothing will stop me—and I mean nothing—from fighting the discrimination in the U.N. against Israel,” says Erdan.
“We need to be creative in how we fight it,” said Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, founder of Shurat HaDin Israeli Law Center, and “we want the United States to keep its promise and to stand up for the State of Israel.”
The U.S. State Department reiterated its opposition to the “open-ended and vaguely defined nature” of the UNHRC’s Commission of Inquiry.
In its first, 18-page report, the Commission of Inquiry claims that Israeli actions, such as demolitions and settlement construction, feed “recurring cycles of violence.”
