“We will not realize the promise of a better future unless we, the civilized world, are willing to fight the barbarians,” Israel’s prime minister said.
While Israel has a citizens’ army, it does not have an armed citizenry. Only about 150,000 Israelis, or 2% of the population, are legal gun owners.

The American leader arrives with the stated aim of bolstering the Jewish state, but critics say Washington is getting in the way of prosecuting the war against Hamas.
“We will attack them. We will dismantle them,” Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said.
Israelis caught in the murderous rampage by Hamas terrorists demonstrated heroism, determination and fortitude.
“We are fighting with all our strength on all fronts. We have gone on the offensive,” proclaimed the prime minister.
The move reflects broad support for war against Hamas.
“We feel abandoned, that no one cares about us,” said Orit Meir, whose son was abducted.
