Jewish Democratic group refuses to endorse Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar over anti-Israel statements
Omar, who has labeled Israel as an “apartheid regime” that has “hypnotized the world,” is favored to take a seat in Congress after winning her Democratic primary on Tuesday in Minnesota.
“Colonizing Palestine,” offered by the school’s Colonialism Studies and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies departments, will “explore the history and culture of modern Palestine and the centrality of colonialism in the making of this contested and symbolically potent territory.”
The product, modeled after U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan, outraged many consumers.
Judicial Watch filed the FOIA lawsuit in order to obtain records from 2015 of groups affiliated with BDS movement, which lobbied “the Obama administration to adopt policies to harm companies doing business with Israel,” the group said in a statement.
While classic anti-Semitism still outnumbers Israel-related incidents three-to-one, Israel-related incidents are far more likely to create a hostile campus for Jewish students.
“It is horrible to be singled out, to be told you are not allowed to do something because of who you are,” said Mandy Blumenthal, who was refused a ticket on a Kuwait Airways flight to Bangkok. “In my mind, it is an anti-Semitic policy to single out the only Jewish state to boycott.”
Booker, a rumored 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful, is seen with a sign that reads “From Palestine to Mexico, all the walls have got to go,” a slogan developed by the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights.
Some German federal states, cities, institutions and politicians have put word to action, and Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt have barred BDS-affiliates from receiving municipal funding and space. Nevertheless, anti-BDS activists say a country that should know better still has a long way to go.
“The fact that this is our eighth Student Leadership Conference, with one of the highest attendance records to date, means that students who support Israel are still plagued by hatred-filled anti-Zionist campaigns on campus,” said Aviva Rosenschein, CAMERA’s international campus director.
The Lawfare Project has already filed complaints against the bill, saying it would violate foreign-trade competences that belong exclusively to the European Union. It plans to continue to pursue legal action.
The move to ban such products—the first by a country in the European Union—has been strongly condemned in Israel and is opposed by the ruling party in Ireland.
The City Council of Castrillon in northern Spain passed a motion last year effectively boycotting Israel, Israeli businesses and companies during business with Israel.
