Brandon Johnson

While the gunman came from Chicago, alderman Debra Silverstein said “there is no known threat” to the Jewish community, though security will be increased “out of an abundance of caution.”
Alderman Debra Silverstein stated that Mayor Brandon Johnson’s decision to appoint Ishan Daya “to a leadership position in Chicago is a deliberate slap in the face to the Jewish community.”
“This is the latest example of the antisemitic hate that pervades the inner circle of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson,” stated the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest.
Lonnie Nasatir, president of the Jewish United Fund, told JNS that the Chicago Police Department has been “nothing but very attentive.”
“I’m not forgiving that fast,” Debra Silverstein told the “Chicago Sun-Times.”
An Illinois state senator and state representative, both Jewish, also skipped the meeting.
“We will work with the person who is the winner,” said Rabbi Menachem Levine, who leads the largest Jewish elementary day school in the Midwest.
