For two years, the world suffered the contagion of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past 10 years, however, we have also witnessed political contagions: the Women’s March, Black Lives Matter riots, climate change protests and defund the police rallies. Millions of illegal aliens entering the United States each year are effectively an “open border policy march.”
Freedom of assembly and speech are protected by the Constitution. But progressive, social justice, intersectionality and woke dogmas use these guarantees to perverse ends. What lies behind each movement’s funding, communication, motivation and support warrants careful examination.
Major Jewish organizations have been solicitous of many progressive causes. They have a lot of explaining to do. They need to justify their support of the Women’s March, with its antisemitic leadership. BLM proclaims “Free Palestine” yet receives the full-throated support of over 600 Jewish organizations, including the ADL. Union of Reform Judaism leader Rabbi Rick Jacobs denounced the Zionist Organization of America for condemning BLM’s virulent antisemitism. This may be part of the reason why, in 2021, a survey showed 85% of Democrats supported BLM.
Protecting the planet is a worthy objective, but the progressives’ global warming, anti-fossil fuel energy policy benefits Iran. Coupled with weakened sanctions, Iran now makes billions from oil the U.S. is prohibited from pumping. Hamas is a beneficiary.
Progressive dogma also supports defunding the police, ignores black-on-black crime and adds to the anarchy in our streets. Similarly, the Democrats’ failure to control the southern border will bolster their voter registers, but also lead to violence, terrorist cells and Fentanyl deaths—and compromise American sovereignty.
On Oct. 7, Hamas went on its rampage through southern Israel. Footage of the carnage has sickened hardened war correspondents. Rocket fire from Gaza continues many weeks later, Hezbollah skirmishes with the IDF in the north and Iran’s other proxies are joining in. Yet the woke media, even when presented with proof of gruesome Hamas atrocities, ignores their lying eyes and pivots to hypocritical narratives of civilian suffering in Gaza.
It was appalling to see progressive constituencies take the side of Hamas. Even as Gazans suffer as Hamas’s human shields, we see crowds of “activists” supporting terror at universities and in major cities around the world.
Despite Hamas’s genocidal actions, progressives’ “oppressor-oppressed” and “intersectional” paradigms have led to their total moral bankruptcy, with surreal results. Queers for Palestine, for example, ignores that a noose or a flight off a 10-story building awaits any LGBTQ+ individual planning to vacation in Gaza.
The fools and fiends carrying “Free Palestine” placards and destroying posters of the murdered and kidnapped are not only dangerous to Jews and Israel, but also America and her allies. These mobs are facilitated by a weakened educational system, social media click-baiting and biased news reporting. Jews are all too familiar with blood libels, and the current wave of misinformation and distortion proves that not much has changed.
The protesters’ embrace of revisionist history, relativism, moral equivalence and feelings over facts drives their mob mentality. They are the contagion’s Typhoid Mary, aiding our enemies and weakening Western governments by skewing world opinion.
Tiny Israel is a country that the Islamic world cannot tolerate. The pro-Palestinian mobs, composed of many faiths, ignore sadistic fundamentalist Islamic beliefs laden with antisemitism and anti-Zionist animus. The mobs, apparently, hate the Jews but do not fear the Iran-China-Russia axis that affords Iran the revenues and the opportunity to pursue its caliphate dream of eliminating Israel and the West. The mobs hum John Lennon’s “Imagine” while their entire way of life is threatened.
Let’s work to ensure that both individual Jews and the leaders of Jewish organizations who have been unsuspecting supporters of causes antithetical to Judaism and Israel wake up.
Demand that leaders of the American Jewish community focus on protecting Jews and Israel rather than woke ideology. Apply financial pressure to American universities that have accepted billions from Arab donors and elevated professors peddling anti-Zionism and antisemitism. Call on congressional leaders and our president to prevent the war against Hamas from dividing us. Instead, they should strengthen America and Israel for whatever lies ahead. Thank them for their support of Israel.
The IDF is fighting the enemy over there. We must fight the antisemitic, anti-Israel contagion here.
