Three Israeli soldiers in the country’s south became ill after apparently having been given cookies laced with marijuana, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, is being investigated by Military Police, Israel Hayom reported.
The three soldiers were taken to an on-base clinic after complaining of stomach aches. They required no medical intervention and the drug’s effect wore off within a few hours, according to the report.
“Several reserves soldiers felt unwell after receiving food donations from civilians,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said on Sunday. “Procedures will be clarified to stipulate that troops are not to receive food donations outside of the regulated channels.”
Thousands of Israelis have participated in various donation drives of treats and gear for soldiers, and especially reservists, following the callup of tens of thousands of them since the outbreak of war with Hamas and hostilities with Hezbollah on Oct. 7. Some of those activities take place inside bases with IDF approval, but others happen at so-called roadside refreshments points, where civilians hand out treats to random soldiers.
