Police arrested two Israeli Arabs from the town of Taybeh, north of Jerusalem, on Monday after they pepper-sprayed a soldier and allegedly attempted to steal the soldier’s weapon.
The incident took place at a bus stop at a junction near the town of Sha’are Efraim, the Israel Defense Forces tweeted. The soldier prevented the attackers from taking his weapon, and police forces quickly arrived and arrested the two suspects.
The soldier was treated with light injuries at a hospital.
Separately, an 18-year old Palestinian died on Sunday after being chased by IDF soldiers in Judea and Samaria after responding to reports that Palestinians were throwing rocks at vehicles on a highway near a village north of Ramallah, the AP reported.
The suspect who died, Amer Snobar, tripped and injured himself, while a second suspect escaped, reported the army. The IDF denied claims by the man’s family that troops had beaten the suspect to death, saying they tried to resuscitate him.
