The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition but is expected to survive, the police said.

They claimed that it was due to the continued mental state of 38-year-old Grafton Thomas.

Grafton Thomas could face an upgraded state murder charge due to the recent death of Yosef Neumann, who was injured in the Dec. 28 attack.
“We owe it to Mr. Neumann, his family and the entire family of New York to get it done now,” said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The new charges against Grafton Thomas, 37, include willfully causing bodily injury to five victims due to their religion and five counts of obstructing the free exercise of religion in an attempt to kill.
