Mossad gets new No. 2

A., considered a contender to lead the agency, has served in the organization for more than 20 years.

Mossad Director David Barnea has appointed senior official A. as the agency’s next deputy director, the Prime Minister’s Office announced on Wednesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the appointment.

A., considered a contender to led the agency, has served in the organization for more than 20 years in a range of senior operational roles, including command of two divisions. His deep experience and familiarity with the agency are seen as critical assets amid what officials described as a period of major strategic challenges and opportunities for Israel and the Mossad.

He will succeed A., who has served as deputy director for the past two years, overseeing key operational efforts and contributing significantly to the Mossad’s multi-front campaign and Israel’s strategic posture.
