“Jews come in many shapes and colors, whether they look European, Middle Eastern, black, etc. This campaign can help people understand this concept of the diversity of Jews,” says Eden Abraham Bouskila, 19, a CAMERA Fellow at UC Davis in California.
In 2002, Reema Dodin, then a student at the University of California, Berkeley, spoke about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying that “suicide bombers were the last resort of a desperate people.”
The initiative reflects the BDS-supporting Jewish Voice for Peace’s “Deadly Exchange” campaign.
Hali Spiegel, CAMERA’s director of campus programming and strategic relationships, said “PFLP terrorists have killed and injured hundreds of civilians in terrorist attacks, including suicide bombings.”
“This resolution has had a real and negative impact on our students’ wellness and experience of their campus,” said San Francisco Hillel executive director Rachel Nilson Ralston.
The probe comes in response to anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist incidents at the university over the past few years, as outlined in a complaint.
A new advisory group will “assist the chancellor and university leadership to identify opportunities to enhance the campus environment for students, faculty and staff, and to advance its commitment to an inclusive community where all feel welcome,” according to a statement.
“These acts are deeply upsetting and leave a scar on members of our community whose beliefs or identities are targeted,” said school administrators in an email to students.
