A winter storm will see temperatures falling to around freezing in Jerusalem and northern Israel early on Monday, with the possibility of snow showers in the capital.

The coldest day of the winter, which is expected to bring snow to Israel’s northern mountains beginning overnight, could also see flurries, a dusting of snow or a wintry mix fall in Jerusalem, the Israel Meteorological Service said on Sunday.

However, U.S. weather forecasters AccuWeather and The Weather Channel did not show snow in their latest forecasts for Jerusalem.

Jerusalem gets snow about once every seven years on average.

Temperatures will begin to rise on Tuesday and return to typical averages later in the week.

Despite the current cold blast, precipitation in Israel remains below average this winter, which until February had seen unseasonably warm and sunny weather.
