Firebrand lawyer Lori Lowenthal Marcus fights for civil rights for American Jewish students from a very young age.
During an April 16 board meeting, a trustee of the public school district said that Jews are “historically” wealthy.
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce is requesting an explanation of Northwestern’s “apparent failure to protect Jewish students.”
“No institution—no matter its pedigree, prestige or wealth—is above the law,” said the U.S. Department of Education’s acting assistant secretary for civil rights.
“The Jews say, ‘This is ours, that was ours....’ No. That’s not what the Quran says,” said the Palestinian leader, echoing a claim made by his predecessor, Yasser Arafat.
“Throughout human history, revolutionaries have targeted the young and impressionable,” political commentator Bethany Mandel tells JNS.
The move comes one week after the department initiated a similar look into Harvard University.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs slammed the report for “blatantly” dismissing “the lived experience of Jewish students, families and educators.”
“YIVO was conceived as a kind of Smithsonian Institution-Library of Congress of Eastern European Jews,” Eddy Portnoy, director of exhibitions at the nonprofit, told JNS.
“The true amounts, sources and purposes of foreign money flowing to American campuses are unknown,” the U.S. president stated.
The legislators are requesting information on the changes to each school’s code of conduct following the Hamas-led attacks in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
The request “is the Trump administration’s first step to ensure Harvard is not being manipulated by foreign entities,” the U.S. Education secretary said.
