“This is a time to say Jewish lives matter,” Rabbi Asher Lopatin, director of community relations at the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor, told JNS.
The U.S. education secretary told reporters on Tuesday that the department is taking an “all hands on deck” approach to tackling antisemitism.
“It is difficult to trust the department to investigate violations of Title VI when your own public statements suggest that you have already come to your own conclusions,” the Republicans wrote.
Details of the plan weren’t publicly available.
“We must promote civil discourse and a high-quality, inclusive cultural education that lifts up marginalized communities rather than teaching antagonistic values in our public schools,” said Rep. Josh Gottheimer.
The letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona cited hate-crime statistics from a 2019 FBI report indicating that Jew-hatred makes up for 63 percent of all religious-biased hate crimes in the United States.
