“We will not stop until antisemitic university administrators face accountability for putting Jewish students in harm’s way,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik.
“When your identity is known, the appeal of threatening or intimidating people significantly decreases,” said Gerard Filitti, a senior counsel at the Lawfare Project.
The Arab-Israeli lecturer had called Israel “criminal” and a “killing machine,” accusing Israel of lying about terrorists committing rapes and killing babies on Oct. 7.
The U.S. Department of Education investigation is for alleged bias based on “shared ancestry,” which can include religion.
“Public safety is my top priority, and as classes resume, it is essential that all students feel safe and are free from harm,” New York’s governor said.
“The antisemitism that infected this process sent a clear message to Jewish students and families that their voices are not welcomed,” said James Pasch, the ADL’s senior director of national litigation.
“Clearly, we had not done enough vetting,” said a district spokesperson.
They urged the school “to reject this antisemitic and unlawful proposal that stems from the violent threats against Jewish students at Brown last spring.”
“You can’t wait until there’s an incident,” Eric Fingerhut told JNS. “People need to know each other.”
University spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado stated that “we will abide by the injunction as this case makes its way through the courts.”
