Israeli forces broke up a weapons and drug-smuggling cell on Monday, arresting six suspects and seizing roughly 46 pounds (21 kilograms) of narcotics during an operation in the Paran Regional Brigade area of southern Israel, the military said Tuesday.

The Israel Defense Forces, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Israel Police launched a pursuit after surveillance spotted a smuggling cell near the western Negev border with Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Authorities confiscated the suspects’ vehicles and turned them over to police.

The IDF said it will continue coordinating with other agencies to thwart smuggling attempts and maintain security along the border.

The Paran Regional Brigade is responsible for securing the nearly 150-mile (240-kilometer) border with the Sinai.
