Israel’s Navy rescued a French sailor on Thursday who had been lost for weeks in the Mediterranean Sea, posting a photo of soldiers and a relieved-looking man on social media.
The man, a fisherman named Jean-François Colas who had once sailed around the world, told Israel’s Channel 13 news that he had sailed from Montpelier last month when his engine and digital equipment failed, and his anchor broke in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
His steering system and radio also broke, leaving him drifting alone.
Colas told the news channel that he was nearly out of food and water when he spotted and signaled the Israeli Navy, which brought him in and arranged medical treatment, including care for an injured leg.
