The effort focuses on encouraging voters to temporarily join the Democratic Party to vote against the anti-Israel politician in the primary election.
“This is about racism and intimidation. This makes no one safer,” wrote Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.).
“We probably will not change our endorsements in mid-cycle,” acknowledged J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami.
“There was inappropriate use of the term without my consent,” said Rep. Jamaal Bowman.
Jeff Mendelsohn, executive director of Pro-Israel America, tweeted that “by pulling his support for the Abraham Accords, Rep. Bowman makes clear that he isn’t interested in peace. He’s only interested in placating the anti-Israel Socialist party that’s supporting him.”
“My decision to sign on to this bill was not in a vacuum. It was made in consultation with many within the Jewish community within the district who also supported the bill,” he said.
“His constituents apparently concluded that he had lost touch with them, and that is, of course, wholly their decision to make,” said Democratic Majority for Israel president Mark Mellman.
