The Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain (FCJE) called on the country’s hate-crimes public prosecutor to investigate anti-Semitic hate speech made during a demonstration in Madrid on Feb. 13 of more than 300 people in honor of a neo-Nazi military unit, reported El Pais.

FCJE said it is “unconscionable in a country with rule of law and full democracy for these serious accusations to go unpunished,” adding that in July 2020, Spain joined the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, “which considers accusations against the Jews of being blameworthy for any event to be anti-Semitic.”

The FCJE will use “all the legal means” available to act against the anti-Semitism that was on display at the event, added the federation.

Saturday’s gathering was in tribute to the volunteer-based military unit División Azul, or “Blue Division,” which former Spanish dictator Francisco Franco sent to support Adolf Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II.

In a video from the event shared on social media by the digital magazine La Marea, a neo-Nazi later identified as Isabel Peralta tells the crowd in Spanish that “the enemy is always going to be the same albeit wearing different masks—the Jew,” according to a translation by El Pais.

She added: “Because there is nothing that is more true than this statement: the Jew is to blame, the Jew is to blame, and the Blue Division fought for this.” She later stated that communism is “a Jewish invention to pit the workers against one another.”

Israel’s ambassador to Spain, Rodica Radian-Gordon, wrote on Twitter that the “anti-Semitic proclamations made in the homage to the Blue Division in Madrid are disgusting and cannot have a place in a democratic society. Education and learning the truth about history is the way to avoid the past repeating itself.”

Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu said: “After years in which sites were neglected or looted, Israel is making historical corrections.”
Using this phrase against Israel is no less absurd than labeling sport-hooliganism and violence at mass demonstrations in the West as officially sponsored, government-sanctioned violence.
“Nearly eight years after the shooting, our gratitude and admiration for the heroic bravery and selfless dedication of the first responders that day endures,” said U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Yitzhak Ben-Hebron escaped Arab riots as a child and later returned to rebuild the Jewish community in the city.
Army Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers III said that future conflicts will require allied special operations forces to integrate quickly and operate with compatible systems.
“The strength and resilience you and your families demonstrate throughout the recovery and rehabilitation process inspire the entire nation of Israel,” the IDF chief said.
