Herzog: ‘Decisive moment between axis of terror and evil and axis of hope’

"In the pages of human history, this is a moment when the principles of liberty, responsibility, and security have triumphed," said the Israeli president.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday morning praised the Trump administration for ordering U.S. military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

“In the pages of human history, this is a moment when the principles of liberty, responsibility, and security have triumphed. A decisive moment between the axis of terror and evil and the axis of hope,” Herzog tweeted.

“Thank you, Donald Trump. Thank you, United States of America,” he continued. “This brave step serves the security and safety of the entire free world. I hope it will lead to a better future for the Middle East—and help advance the urgent release of our hostages held in captivity in Gaza.”

Earlier, Trump announced that the United States had carried out a “successful” strike on three Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

“A full payload of bombs was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,” Trump said. “All planes are safely on their way home.”

Fordow has long been considered Iran’s most heavily fortified nuclear facility, built deep beneath a mountain to protect it from aerial assault. The site’s defenses had raised doubts about whether Israel could destroy it without U.S. involvement, particularly in the absence of American bunker-buster munitions and long-range bombers.

Trump later posted a statement declaring, “Fordow is gone.”
