Former Israel Defense Forces’ Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot said “Operation Northern Shield” exposed and neutralized ‎terror tunnels dug under the Israel-‎Lebanon security fence.
Apparently, the BBC is still not convinced who dug those cross-border tunnels or what their intended purpose would be.
U.S. citizen Colin Emery, who is believed to be Jewish, is detained in Lebanon after crossing border fence on Monday.
The Israel Defense Forces launched “Operation Northern Shield” in December 2018 to destroy attack tunnels from Lebanon into Israel.
“While Lebanon has the right to defend itself, that is the right of the Lebanese state alone,” said U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale after meeting Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri.
It was found to penetrate several dozen meters into Israel and extend 2,600 feet at a depth of 180 feet underground.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, 58, took over the terror group in 1992 after his predecessor was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike.
Last August, the United States created the Iran Action Group, “responsible for directing, reviewing and coordinating all aspects of the State Department’s Iran-related activity.”
The latest Iranian terror plots in Europe are a warning and a wake-up call to governments in Europe to re-examine the appeasement polices towards the Iranian regime.
The military’s state of readiness has dramatically improved, according to internal reports, but a senior analyst told JNS it had a lot more catching up to do after years of neglecting the ground forces, which will be essential for defeating enemies like Hezbollah decisively.
“In the next confrontation with the occupation, the axis of resistance will operate from the north in Lebanon to the south in Gaza,” said Ziad Nakhala in an interview to the state-owned Iranian TV channel Al-Alam.
The new battalion, named Shaarei Ha’esh (“Gates of Fire”), will specialize in fighting the Iranian-backed Shi’ite terror group in the Galilee, and protecting local residents and military posts close to Lebanon, as well as attacking Hezbollah inside of Lebanon.
