The European Jewish Congress called on HarperCollins to distance itself from the book’s “potentially incendiary claim ... at a time when anti-Semitism and the distortion of the Holocaust are on the rise.”
The funding is part of efforts to support Holocaust awareness throughout the country, said acting education minister Stuart Robert.
“It’s not for third-graders. This is for eighth-grade minds who’ve already had Holocaust education beginning in fifth grade—in the state of Tennessee, that’s when we begin,” said Michael Dzik of the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga.
The two-week suspension will give the talk-show host “time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” says the TV station’s president Kim Godwin.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer took to social media to express his disgust, saying “anti-Semitism and hatred are not welcome in this community. Despite displays of hate in Central Florida, our collective commitment to building an inclusive, compassionate community for all is stronger than ever.”
Dani Dayan welcomed the talk-show host’s “important” apology, though said her remarks were evidence of a “fundamental misunderstanding” regarding the nature of anti-Semitism.
It opened at Shaar HaShamayim Synagogue on the island of Sulawesi and is called “The Holocaust: How Was It Humanly Possible?”
The Pulitzer Prize-winning book tells the story of Art Spiegelman’s parents, who lived in Poland in the 1940s, and their time in Auschwitz.
“The Nazis thought they were the future, and that Jews would be something you only find in a museum. Instead, the Jewish state is the future, and Mauthausen is a museum,” said Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.
Almost 3,600 North American students from grades six through 12 participated in the study by the Ontario-based Liberation75.
The metal pendants, each different from the others, are from Lviv in Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic, according to researchers.
