Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed attorney Roi Cahlon as the acting civil service commissioner, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Sunday.
Cahlon, 44, headed the task force to combat crime in the Arab sector within the Prime Minister’s Office over the past year, building on 15 years of public service starting in the State Attorney’s Office.
Netanyahu defended the appointment, saying there is no discrepancy between Cahlon’s qualifications and his suitability for the role, contrary to concerns raised by Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.
“Attorney Cahlon is a true professional with significant experience in senior management, government operations, and public and administrative law,” the premier said.
“Over the past year, I have closely followed his work and received strong recommendations from senior figures in the civil service and law enforcement regarding his appointment. I am confident that he will strengthen the civil service for the benefit of all Israeli citizens. I wish him success as acting civil service commissioner.”
