Chairman of the Abraham Accords Roundtable and the Golda Meir Commemorative Coin Committee Bobby Rechnitz called President Isaac Herzog’s historic address to Congress a celebration of the Israel-U.S. relationship.
“Today, is a celebration of Israel by the democratically elected representatives of the American people,” said Rechnitz, who was personally invited to attend Herzog’s speech. “Both sides have shown in their almost unanimous attendance that support for the Jewish state is not a Republican or Democratic position, it is an American position.”
“The answer to those who have tried to drive wedges in this relationship received the strongest rebuttal today from all of those standing ovations Israel’s head of state received.”
Rechnitz has been involved for many years in strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship and was instrumental in the passage of the Iron Dome legislation.
“It is also vital that before President Herzog’s trip, an invitation to Prime Minister Netanyahu to come to D.C. was sent,” Rechnitz continued. “Despite reports to the contrary, the ties between President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu are long and strong. They have an open and honest relationship, and this is sometimes misinterpreted by parts of the media.”
“Even the best of friends do not agree on everything. However, the dialogue and cooperation in many areas and arenas are always there and we can see that from the breadth and depth of these ties.”
Rechnitz chairs the Abraham Accords Roundtable, which brings together leaders from all the signatories to the accords to discuss ways of cooperating and creating partnerships.
He is working on the Golda Meir Commemorative Coin Act, a bill supported by a bipartisan congressional coalition calling upon the United States Treasury to celebrate Israel-America relations by minting a coin bearing the face of Israel’s fourth Prime Minister, Golda Meir. The bill is championed by Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) alongside Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
