Campus Antisemitism
Fabrice Labeau, deputy provost of student life and learning, has asked the leadership of the student senate “to take prompt and appropriate remedial action” regarding the measure. If they fail to do so, the university will “terminate” the agreement.
“We’ve seen time and again where these social-media companies don’t take a strong enough stance and lift the restrictions. I don’t think they care enough to understand what the issue really is,” said Douglas Sandoval, campus advisor at the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA).
The British premier said it was important to have an anti-Semitism task force “devoted to rooting out” the problem “in education at all levels.”
The school’s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter started a “BDS Pledge,” asking students to refuse to “buy products or participate in groups that benefit and normalize Israel.”
“When Jewish students feel they cannot express their support of the Jewish homeland, that’s unsafe,” says Jonah Fried, an international student in McGill’s Honors program and a CAMERA Fellow on Campus.
Steven Salaita is scheduled to be keynote speaker at the 2022 Graduate and Professional Student Senate Research Symposium; he was removed from his tenured position at the University of Illinois in 2014 after a series of anti-Semitic tweets were discovered.
Titled “Faculty Academic Boycotters: Ground Zero for Campus Antisemitism,” it explored anti-Semitic activity at universities starting from the onset of the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza last May through the end of the 2020-21 academic year.
Rabab Abdulhadi, director of the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Studies Program at San Francisco State University, has expressed her support for Palestinian terrorists, including Leila Khaled.
