“Extremists hope the virus kills Jews, but they are also using its emergence to advance anti-Semitic theories that Jews are responsible for creating the virus, spreading it to increase their control over a decimated population, or they are profiting off it,” said the ADL.
For students who find it difficult to connect to the Holocaust and its lessons, said Rabbi Yisroel Bernath, who co-directs Chabad at Concordia University in Montreal, “it is important, now more than ever, to have the right narrative.”
Among the website’s 20 different definitions of the Nazi concentration camp are “a summer camp for Jews, “a disneyland for its time” and “the happy resort for Jews during WW2.”
“There was no intention whatsoever to compare the dark days of the Holocaust with the current situation and the efforts taken by the Israeli government to protect its citizens,” said the embassy.
“States and local school boards, NOT Washington, should ensure our children are getting the best education, including on the subject of the Holocaust and human atrocities of all kinds, in all places and against all peoples,” said Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas).
“Rabbi Cohn saw how a democracy can be corrupted into a fascist dictatorship, and what happens when anti-Semitism is allowed to fester,” said Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.).
Inside were 350 objects, including artifacts from the World War I and 18 cap badges with the initials of Austro-Hungarian emperor Franz Joseph, who ruled from 1848 until his death in 1916.
“My father was very clear: Every time someone asked what he aspired to be, he said, ‘A good Jew,’ ” said Elisha Wiesel.
“Seventy-five years ago today, when Soviet troops entered these gates, they had no idea what lay behind them. And since that day, the entire world has struggled with what they found inside,” said World Jewish Congress president Ronald S. Lauder.
“Rabbi Cohn’s life story is a stark and vivid reminder that not only must we never forget the Holocaust, but we must also learn the lessons from this horrific and evil period to ensure such persecution never happens again,” said Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.).
If enacted, it would expand the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s education programming to teachers nationwide, requiring the museum to develop and disseminate resources to improve awareness and understanding of the Holocaust and its lessons.
