The incident preceded the outbreak of Israel’s war with Iran and is uncharacteristic of the community’s situation, a local rabbi said.
The anti-Israel state representative, who is running for New York City mayor, opted to “sanitize ‘globalize the intifada’” in a way that is “especially offensive to survivors,” the museum said.
“By naming this post office in his honor, we not only remember the man—we reaffirm the values he stood for,” stated Rep. Lois Frankel.
“When you desecrate the Holocaust monument, it causes tremendous pain for the community,” Lawrence Greenspon, volunteer co-chair of the National Holocaust Monument Committee, told JNS.
“By immersing these cadets and midshipmen in the history of Auschwitz and the Holocaust, we hope to inspire ethical leadership rooted in humanity and justice,” said the chairman of the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation.
Two suspects were booked “on firearm-related offenses, with additional federal charges likely to be filed,” the Thurston County sheriff said.
