“The people with guns inside Gaza are Hamas, and so Hamas may try to divert this assistance and keep it from getting to the civilians who it is intended for,” a U.S. State Department spokesman said. “We think that’s a legitimate concern.”
“Any response, should one occur, will come at a time and a manner of our choosing,” said a U.S. Department of Defense spokesman.
“I think it would be bad for Israel to have a man who has misled the Congress and the American people about the nuclear deal with Iran,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) told JNS of Lew’s nomination.
The Hadash MK, who is Jewish, accused the Netanyahu government of exploiting the Hamas attack to implement a “final solution.”

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) led the effort, which included 63 Democrats and 53 Republicans.
