(December 21, 2020, JNS Wire) The Covid-19 pandemic has necessitated more creative forms of fundraising, leading to new initiatives such Curio Auctions, which creates customized online auctions for nonprofits featuring unique items which represent the mission of the organization. The Israel Allies Foundation (IAF) has teamed up with Curio to auction off items with a Biblical and Zionist appeal in honor of the holiday season. Items range in starting bids from $180 for a 20th century Maccabees themed menorah to $12,000 for a portfolio of 12 etchings of King Solomon’s Song of Songs hand-signed by Spanish artist Salvador Dali. Interested bidders submit their bid online (https://www.curioauctions.com/israelallies) and are notified by email if they have been outbid, while being given the chance to increase their bid until the auction concludes. The bidding process will conclude on December 23rd, after which the winning bidder is notified and those who bid unsuccessfully are offered similar items for purchase.
Among the items expected to garner enthusiasm is a hand-signed speech by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from his 1996 address to the U.S Congress. During his first term as Prime Minister, Netanyahu was honored with an invitation to address a joint session of Congress. In his remarks, he praised America’s commitment to world peace and spoke of his own commitment to securing peace in the Middle East. He also emphasized Israel’s security, promising to adhere to the Jewish state’s agreements with the Palestinian Arabs but not to negotiate with neighboring states who incite or support terrorism against Israel. In this historic speech Netanyahu reaffirmed that, “there will never be a re-division of Jerusalem.”
A hand-signed copy of Former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion’s book is another item which is expected to be highly sought-after. “Israel: A Personal History” is an epic narrative about the founding of the State of Israel featuring historic documents, personal correspondences and speeches from Israel’s first Prime Minister. He also shares his perspective on the development of the Jewish people, beginning from Abraham until the rise of the national-Zionist movement.
A hand-signed lithograph of King David by 20th century artist Reuven Rubin will likely be another popular item. Rubin is considered one of the most renowned and famous Israeli artists worldwide with works in collections of leading museums such as MoMA (New York), Musee d’art Moderne (Paris), Jewish Museum (New York) and others. He was born in Romania in 1893 and immigrated to Israel in 1912, settling in Jerusalem. A year after he traveled to Paris to study at Ecole Des Beaux-Art, finally returning to Israel to begin a lifelong career depicting his lens on Israel and the Bible.
Curio Auctions is sponsored by the Am Yisrael Foundation. “Through enticing, enchanting and exciting online auction events, we are revolutionizing philanthropic fundraising by inspiring collectors and donors to connect with non-profits through the purchase of highly sought after treasures not generally not available to the public” said Am Yisrael Foundation President Jay Shultz. IAF President Josh Reinstein said “We are excited to partner with Curio on this new endeavour. We know that the auction winners will value these priceless treasures for years to come and at the same time will feel satisfied by contributing to a global effort in support for Israel.”
