Oscar Wilde once wrote that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life.” Current events have proven he was spot on right!

I have worked my way thru the John Wick movies, the Fast and the Furious series, and the various Mad Max’s. The LSW (Long Suffering Wife) never understood why I watched them and enjoyed them. I explained to her that they were actually fantasies, choreographed “Gun Fu” ballets, and super fun to watch.

These days, the news coverage of ongoing clashes in Lebanon and Israel has ruined those slick action movies for me. Forever. Or at least until there’s peace and the violence returns to being just choreographed fantasies that are fun to watch.

Political cartoonist Yaakov Kirschen grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., made aliyah to Israel in 1971 and began drawing “Dry Bones” in January 1973. The internationally syndicated, award-winning cartoons ran in The Jerusalem Post for 50 years. They were reprinted in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, TIME and other mainstream media publications. The “Dry Bones” story has been covered by CBS, CNN and Forbes, among other outlets. He was a member of America’s National Cartoonists Society and the Israeli Cartoonists Society. Kirschen died at 87 on April 14, 2025.
