Biden’s push for Palestinian statehood rewards terrorism

“Top Story” with Jonathan Tobin and guest Elliott Abrams, Ep. 132

Why are the American foreign-policy establishment and the Biden administration still peddling old, discredited ideas like the “two-state solution” that purport to be the formula to end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians? According to JNS editor-in-chief Jonathan Tobin, this would replicate the conditions that led to the Oct. 7 mass murders in southern Israel by Hamas terrorists.

He’s joined by veteran diplomat and Tikvah Fund chairman Elliott Abrams, who said that the mixed signals being sent about the war against Hamas by the Biden administration is a mistake. The United States should, he said, be working towards a defeat for Iran and its proxies, like Hamas, and not seek to keep the terrorists in place in Gaza by pushing for a ceasefire that would grant it a victory in the war.

Abrams also says that while Biden’s demand that Israel’s war on Hamas be “immaculate” with no civilian casualties is unrealistic and counter-productive, its postwar plans are just as bad. To advocate for an independent Palestinian state now, after Oct. 7, isn’t just bad policy, “it’s a victory for terrorism.” He also believes that the idea is partly motivated in part by the irrational hatred for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu felt by many in the White House and U.S. State Department, as well as the growing hostility to Israel and Jews on the political left.

With respect to Iran, Biden’s actions that undermined efforts to stop the Houthi terrorists, as well as appeasement of Hezbollah in Lebanon, is a “very damaging policy” that only works to strengthen Tehran.
