A report released by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day shows that while only 3% of Jews lived in Israel in 1939, 45% live in the Jewish state today.
Holocaust Remembrance Day will see the “Jewish Rescuers Citation” conferred on those who operated in France, Holland, Germany, Slovakia, Lithuania, then-Czechoslovakia and Denmark.
“The story of the Holocaust is relevant to every IDF soldier and officer,” said Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi.
The digital gathering is geared to address Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism worldwide.
Members of the Israeli government called the march, which was joined by Knesset member Itamar Ben-Gvir, a “provocation.”
“We are horrified that it occurred during a Passover celebration, and reports are that an object was thrown at Hillel, crossing the line from protest to violence,” said the Anti-Defamation League Midwest.
The fliers, which were placed in plastic bags and filed with corn nibs, arrived on the birthday of Adolf Hitler.
The move came shortly after the UAE summoned Israel’s ambassador to Abu Dhabi to discuss events on the Temple Mount.
“We understand why some of our friends aren’t here today, though it is a little disappointing,” said Shmuel Cohen of Jerusalem. “There is no reason it needs to be this way. What do the Palestinians who caused this gain from this? This is their holy month, and they use Al-Aqsa this way?”
They are similar to ones that blamed the coronavirus pandemic on a Jewish conspiracy.
“The warm welcome our community has received from the local leadership is a true testament to coexistence and tolerance,” said Rabbi to the United Arab Emirates Levi Duchman.
Israel “will continue to act against terrorism in a focused manner and block anyone who seeks to disturb the public order,” says Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
