“I ask my colleagues here in the Security Council: Who among us would accept this type of activity on your border?” posed U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley. “No one would. No country in this chamber would act with more restraint than Israel has.”
“After consulting with our partners, including our good friends, the State of Israel has decided to postpone its candidacy for a seat on the Security Council,” according to a statement from Israel’s Permanent Mission to the U.N.
The U.S.-drafted statement would have the council express “serious concern” about Abbas’s remarks, which “included vile anti-Semitic slurs and baseless conspiracy theories, and do not serve the interests of the Palestinian people or peace in the Middle East,” AFP reported.
The delegation, which represents a quarter of the countries with diplomatic ties to Israel, is visiting the Jewish state this week in celebration of the nation’s big birthday.

“While we are preparing to celebrate the Festival of Freedom and the struggle of the ancient Jews against bondage and slavery, the Iranian regime continues to threaten Israel and to spread terror throughout the Middle East,” said Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon.
“The United States continues to evaluate our membership in the Human Rights Council. Our patience is not unlimited,” said U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley. “Today’s actions make clear that the organization lacks the credibility needed to be a true advocate for human rights.”
P.A. leader Mahmoud Abbas has vowed to apply to 22 international treaties, including 18 of the United Nations in December 2017, following the official recognition by U.S. President Donald Trump of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
