Former Jordanian deputy premier: ‘Our struggle with the Jews is existential’

Israel’s sovereignty bid is a “life-and-death issue” for Jordan, and “all options are on the table” in response, says former Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Mamdouh al-Abadi.

Israel’s plan to apply sovereignty in parts of Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley is a “life-and-death” issue for Jordan, according to former Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Mamdouh al-Abadi.

In July 12 interview by U.K.-based Alghad TV, al-Abadi said “the hatred between [the two] peoples is historic,” insisting that “our relations with the Israelis and the Jews in this region are existential and [go] beyond a border dispute.”

If Israel moves ahead with its sovereignty plan, he said, it would constitute an “act of aggression” against Jordan, and that “all options are on the table,” as far as Jordan’s response.

That includes sanctions, cutting off relations with Israel, annulling the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty and gas deals, and returning to the “pre-1967 state of affairs.”
