Mayor of Sderot Hon. Alon Davidi and Dorel Abramovitz,Director of Development, have issued the following statement:

The horrifying terrorist attacks that began on Simchat Torah have left our community in a state of shock, disbelief, and grief. As you have been following, the devastating attack against our country is an unprecedented act of terrorism that has struck the heart of our community, causing widespread destruction, injuries, and loss of life.

Families have been torn apart, homes reduced to rubble, and our sense of security shattered. The scars of this horrific incident are unparalleled and will be etched into our collective memory forever. This is not how we expected to enter the New Year and the celebration of Simchat Torah – a time of joy.We offer our condolences to those who have lost family members, and we await the flood of people reaching out for assistance for their children and loved ones who are experiencing severe trauma as a result of this ongoing attack.

The Sderot Resilience Center, and the entire scope of the town’s services, stands ready and is committed to responding immediately to every concern.Through your support, Sderot is a symbol of resiliency and strength, despite living under constant threat, but we could never have imagined the level of imminent threat that is now here. Now more than ever, your support will help our residents in their greatest time of need. Our teams of emergency and medical responders, social workers and volunteers are on the front lines to provide support for the city, but are stretched out of capacity, and we are in desperate need of immediate support.

Two Generators:

Provide Power to the Emergency Resilience Staff anywhere in the City to respond to needs of individuals and families.

Cost per Generator: $35,000 – Total required: $70,000.

Personal Protective Equipment for First Responders:

We need to outfit out volunteers who are putting themselves at risk to protect the residents of our city. Each volunteer needs a ballistic helmet and bulletproof vest, searchlight, first aid kit and radio.

Cost to Outfit One Volunteer: $2,000 – Total required for 100 Volunteers: $200,000

Sderot Resilience Center – Mental and Emotional Well-Being of Residents:

With the entire city on lockdown, families confined to shelters, and violence in the streets, the demand for the mental and emotional services provided by the Sderot Resilience Center has never been higher. Our therapists and social workers ensure the well-being of all of our residents, going to those in need of support and providing activities to keep families calm and resilient throughout this ordeal.

Over 2,000 Hours of Additional Therapy Needed: $250,000

Relief and Respite for At-Risk Residents from the Violence:

The psychological toll on the residents of Sderot is immeasurable. Taking children and families from the shelters to a safer place outside Sderot for a period of time has a significant impact on their welfare and strength to survive this ordeal. We require support to provide secure transportation, facilities, and to maintain therapies and other activities for much needed relief for suffering those under the unbearable stress of constant terror.

Total Budget Needed: $300,000 for several hundred families

Your assistance, no matter how big or small, makes a significant impact on our journey toward recovery and resilience. We will continue to stand strong in the face of adversity, but we cannot do it alone. We need your support, partnership, and solidarity to rebuild our city and mend our broken spirits. Thank you for your kindness, empathy, and unwavering support during these challenging times. Together, we can rebuild our city, our lives, and our hope for a brighter future.
