“The targeting of Jewish schools and businesses and destroying the Israeli flag send a hateful message to Canada’s Jews,” said Michael Levitt, CEO of the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
“These are not retrospective descriptions of reality but living descriptions,” Matan Barzilai, the library’s head of archives and special collections, told JNS. “They do not know what we already know.”
Bookshelves were often the only Jewish signs in those homes, and even hateful books were useful, according to Reed College professor Marat Grinberg.
