Two Israeli swimmers won gold medals in the 2018 World Para Swimming European Championships in Dublin, Ireland, on Monday.
Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev took to Twitter to celebrate athletes Inbal Pezaro, 31, and Ami Dadaon, 17, telling them, “You have brought honor to the State of Israel!”
Pezaro, who has been paralyzed since birth in her lower limbs—and has won four silver and five bronze medals in the Paralympic games since 2004, in addition to three gold, six silver and one bronze medal in other world championships—beat Italian competitor Monica Boggioni in the 200-meter freestyle final by a little more than half a second.
Dadaon won the 100-meter freestyle race in his first men’s European championship, with a new personal record of 1:25.40.
Pezaro and Dadaon are members of the ILAN Haifa swimming club.
