Jewish and Israeli Holidays

Under the directive, Israelis living in Jewish towns are barred from leaving their communities from between 5 p.m on Tuesday until 5 a.m on Thursday.
The day is dedicated to recalling the millions of Jewish lives lost to Nazi persecution, as well as reflects on the courageous acts of those who resisted the German regime to help save them.
Swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti were spray-painted on two synagogues in Huntsville, Ala., over the initial days of the Passover holiday. Police have released surveillance footage of a suspect.
The ceremony, which usually draws tens of thousands, was dramatically scaled down due to coronavirus pandemic • U.S. envoy David Friedman, one of the quorum of 10, prays “the world is spared further illness or sorrow from COVID-19 or otherwise.”
The governor and mayor put out a call for medical professionals, and very soon, these good souls began streaming in to help staff the emerging facility.
Driver Sheldon Samuels told amNY that it feels “good to give back to the community.”
“Since the beginning of the outbreak, we’ve been working on getting the supplies everyone needs for the holiday,” said Rabbi Bentzi Sudak of Chabad Lubavitch UK.
“The world is experiencing a pandemic, and we all need to mobilize so that Jewish life in the Diaspora does not fade away,” said president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Dr. Michael Mirilashvili.
“In every generation, we have overcome challenges, and it seems that in the past 100 years, we have not seen a challenge such as this,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It also continued its three-decade-old tradition of distributing matzah to needy Jewish elderly in parts of the former Soviet Union.
The shipments include full dinners and traditional seder-plate items, including parsley, egg, charoset, shank bone and horseradish.
The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way many Israeli families are shopping for the holiday, and is presenting special challenges to the elderly, the disadvantaged and those under quarantine.
