Two days after Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued a statement mourning the loss of life due to flash floods in Texas, other Israeli officials offered their condolences.
“My wife, Sara, and I and all of Israel are praying for the Great State of Texas,” wrote Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who landed in the United States for meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. “Israel knows disaster—we’ve lived through war, fire and flood. Dear friends, we stand with you!”
“Our prayers are with the victims and families affected by the heartbreaking tragedy in Texas,” wrote Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations. “Israel stands in solidarity with the American people during this difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences to all those mourning.”
As of Monday evening, the flash floods, which were caused by torrential rains across the Texas Hill Country, have claimed the lives of more than 100 people, though that number is expected to increase as search-and-rescue efforts turn to recovery.
Following a visit to Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp, on Saturday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vowed that state rescue efforts would continue “until we find every girl who was in those cabins,” describing the scene as “unlike anything I’ve seen in any natural disaster.”
Some 27 campers and staff died in the natural disaster, with 10 campers and one staff member still unaccounted for, according to CNN.
